M.E. Awareness New Zealand | Stand 05

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) is a debilitating chronic complex multisystem disease affecting the neurological, immune, endocrine, cardiac, and metabolic energy systems. Prevalence estimates suggest that between 20,000 to 40,000 New Zealanders are affected and many remain undiagnosed. Misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis, means that many are left without support, or are provided with inappropriate advice that may result in harm.

M.E. Awareness NZ is a national collective of people who have come together to improve access to evidence based information and effective strategies for health practitioners.

Wellington GP, Richard Medlicott, partnered with M.E. Awareness NZ to raise funds through sponsorship for riding in the Pioneer mountain bike ultra event in December 2019. His efforts, and the generosity of donors, have enabled us to have a presence here at GP21.

New Zealand Rural General Practice Network | Stand 41

The New Zealand Rural General Practice Network is a membership and support organisation for rural health professionals. Based in Wellington, the Network’s national membership and advocacy includes both rural practices and individual members covering more than 1800 doctors, nurses, practice managers and students. The Network is governed by a Committee of 13 members, who are GPs, nurses, managers, and students from around New Zealand.

The Network advocates for rural General Practice through active involvement on a number of national committees and working groups, and through work with its partner organisations the Rural Hospital Network, Rural Health Alliance Aotearoa New Zealand, Students of Rural Health Aotearoa, and Rural Nurses New Zealand.

We also hold a contract with the New Zealand Government to provide a rural support and recruitment service, which we do through our NZLocums division.
